Zombies...Regency Style And Beyond

Image
This book is such fun. How cool that it will be a movie . Now we can get the blood and gore in 3D :) Zombies are everywhere, in every setting and situation.  A reflection of our times, perchance?  If you love zombies in unlikely places, check out my Apocalypse Babes series.  The first book features zombies in 60s garb with a penchant for disco. Who doesn't want to see a brain-eating monster in platform shoes? The series expands into a crazy universe of sci-fi soap opera horrors:  The Z Word, follows Seffy Carter and her longtime friends Gareth, Addison and Lani, four besties who share a past dysfunctional and dark enough to keep them bound together under do-over identities. But like off-brand velour, rends develop in their relationships from the flesh-eating pressures of ending up in 1980, in a Montana desert, surrounded by zombies wearing dated disco duds.   And the best part--the first book is FREE at Amazon and Smashwords .  ...

It's Still Scary Out There--Dystopian Blog Hop

Image
UPDATE: WINNERS! Anastasia F Heather B Michelle W Congrats all! And thanks to all who participated. Sign up for my email list as I have a lot of contests, including one currently for a  Kindle Fire HDX or $229 cash! http://bellastreetwrites.blogspot.com/2013/11/kindle-fire-hdx-giveaway-blog-hop.html Just because Halloween's over doesn't mean it isn't still scary out there. Instead of ghosts and goblins, dystopian themes abound with their wastelands and zombies and end-of-the-world angst. If that's what keeps you reading, you've come to the right place, brought to you by I Am A Reader (http://www.iamareader.com/) and My Shelf Confessions (http://www.myshelfconfessions.com/).  All the authors in this hop have either written--or recommend--a dystopian novel. Because it's almost comforting imaging a world a little worse than one's own.  My offering is my 6 book set Apocalypse Babes , an Amazon #1 Bestseller in Time Travel Romance. It's a Got...

It's Zombie Celebration Day!

Image
In honor of the release of World War Z , I'm participating in an act of shameless promotion. My book series Apocalypse Babes starts off with a little zombie action--though my zombies aren't quite that fast AND are more partial to disco than worldwide destruction.  Instead of the stylish scarf Brad Pitt sports, my main character Seffy has an unnatural affinity for her pink Juicy Couture velour tracksuit. So yeah, not a lot of similarities, but, hey, zombies! No mad skillz, no sacred destiny, just a pink tracksuit that will take her places she never wanted to go... It's been said that a sure sign of the coming apocalypse is an 80s roller skate disco movie coming to DVD (with special features). In the science-fiction novel series Apocalypse Babes, a stylish group of twenty-something friends are torn from the Babylonian arms of 2006 West Hollywood and flung nearly thirty years into the past. It might be because one of them purchased the taboo film in a nos...

Things That Go Bite In The Night

Image
It's that time of year when the leaves begin to turn, when there's a brisk chill in the air...when there's a faint coppery tinge of blood, rotting flesh, and dystopian drama. That means it's zombie time. Sometimes zombies are cute.    But more often zombies are brain-munching fiends. And attempts to survive them can be even messier. There are plenty of stories to keep you looking over your shoulder when the zombie apocalypse is nigh. If you enjoy dark zombie apocalypse tales in the vein of Forest of Hands and Teeth and Enclave ... then check out new author Emily Shore 's zombacalypse take in Flesher .  Ashleigh Starr, known as Ash to all but one, carries a dark secret, punishable by a fate worse than death. In an apocalyptic world where humanity has been invaded by a new virus for years, Ash bears the burden of a forbidden love on her shoulders, the forbidden love of one of the Infected, those her people call t...

What's the Most Apocalyptic Of All?

Image
It's been said that the apocalypse is the end of the world as you know it. Sometimes it's something big like war or disease. And sometimes it's when the boy you like dumps you at the dance. Apocalypse. The word has so many possibilities. Books and films have had a heyday exploring apocalyptic themes...zombies, ebola, the Vietnam war, zombies, rogue weather, children killing children, zombies... Yeah, zombies are big for some reason. But what are some other apocalyptic scenarios? What would you like to see people running from? I have a soft spot for camp, so what about zombie spiders? Or zombie kittehs?  http://plmethvin.deviantart.com/art/ZOMBIE-KITTEH-169510826   Or no zombies at all? Think up something crazy and reply at the Apocalypse Whenever's Goodreads page for a chance to win a 6 book series about some babes in Apocalypse land.  http://amzn.com/B006OFBP5E While zombies, nightmares, space ships, frenemies, Soviet plots, and pink...

THE Z WORD--Free Gothic Time-Travel Sci-Fi Romance

Image
Gothic Time-Travel Sci-Fi Romance...if that's a mouthful, how about Skiffy-Rom Goth-Com? There's just not an easy way to describe The Z Word .  The Z Word follows Seffy Carter and her longtime friends Gareth, Addison and Lani. The four besties share a past dysfunctional and dark enough to keep them bound together under do-over identities. But like off-brand velour, rends develop in their relationships from the flesh-eating pressures of ending up in 1980, in a Montana desert, surrounded by zombies wearing dated disco duds. Reviewers have used words like:  "The Scooby Gang in Zombieland " "Seriously wicked awesome" "A clusterpluck of craziness" "Alice in Wonderland gone wrong" "Not quite the worst I've read"   "Left me guessing and wanting more" "Part science fiction, part romance, part mystery, part fantasy, The Z Word is all entertainment " Wha...

Image
Now available at Smashwords for zip, zero, nada . I'll be starting a contest promotion on July 6th, so if you leave a comment or review or share about The Z Word in any way, save and send me links starting on 7/6/11 for entries. Details coming up. For now, I hope you enjoy the first in a series described thusly: It's been said that a sure sign of the coming apocalypse is an 80s roller skate disco movie coming to DVD (with special features). In my science-fiction novel series Apocalypse Babes, a stylish group of twenty-something friends are torn from the Babylonian arms of 2006 West Hollywood and flung nearly thirty years into the past. It might be because one of them purchased the taboo film in a nostalgic moment, setting off a chain of events more disturbing than a roller skating conga line. They wake up in an apocalyptic but strangely familiar landscape, complete with a hidden mountain compound and retro survivalists, hinting at hidden and retro secrets they must face i...
