Zombies...Regency Style And Beyond

Image
This book is such fun. How cool that it will be a movie . Now we can get the blood and gore in 3D :) Zombies are everywhere, in every setting and situation.  A reflection of our times, perchance?  If you love zombies in unlikely places, check out my Apocalypse Babes series.  The first book features zombies in 60s garb with a penchant for disco. Who doesn't want to see a brain-eating monster in platform shoes? The series expands into a crazy universe of sci-fi soap opera horrors:  The Z Word, follows Seffy Carter and her longtime friends Gareth, Addison and Lani, four besties who share a past dysfunctional and dark enough to keep them bound together under do-over identities. But like off-brand velour, rends develop in their relationships from the flesh-eating pressures of ending up in 1980, in a Montana desert, surrounded by zombies wearing dated disco duds.   And the best part--the first book is FREE at Amazon and Smashwords .  ...

It's Zombie Celebration Day!

Image
In honor of the release of World War Z , I'm participating in an act of shameless promotion. My book series Apocalypse Babes starts off with a little zombie action--though my zombies aren't quite that fast AND are more partial to disco than worldwide destruction.  Instead of the stylish scarf Brad Pitt sports, my main character Seffy has an unnatural affinity for her pink Juicy Couture velour tracksuit. So yeah, not a lot of similarities, but, hey, zombies! No mad skillz, no sacred destiny, just a pink tracksuit that will take her places she never wanted to go... It's been said that a sure sign of the coming apocalypse is an 80s roller skate disco movie coming to DVD (with special features). In the science-fiction novel series Apocalypse Babes, a stylish group of twenty-something friends are torn from the Babylonian arms of 2006 West Hollywood and flung nearly thirty years into the past. It might be because one of them purchased the taboo film in a nos...

Science-Fiction Romance Brigade Presents Novel Snippet Time

Image
Science Fiction Romance Brigade is hosting novel snippets from members books, new releases, or works in progress. What a fun way to peek at SFR possibilities! My offering is a few paragraphs from my Gothic Science-Fiction Romance The Z Word , book one of the Apocalypse Babes series. The Z Word, follows Seffy Carter and her longtime friends Gareth, Addison and Lani. The four besties share a past dysfunctional and dark enough to keep them bound together under do-over identities. But like off-brand velour, rends develop in their relationships from the flesh-eating pressures of ending up in 1980, in a Montana desert, surrounded by zombies wearing dated disco duds .   Gareth looked down the hill, then ran his hands through his hair. “We've got to find some shelter.” “Except shelter seems to be where they like to hide,” Lani pointed out, her pretty face pale with fear. Seffy noticed the man stumbling as he attempted to climb the hill. “Can't we outrun him? ...

Image
Since the 12/21/12 apocalypse is nigh, you might as well go out in style, right? And who knows, just maybe the Juicy Couture pink velour tracksuit will send you to an alternate universe, thereby giving you a way of escape from impending doom. A time-traveling Juicy suit?? Maybe such a deal is what's really bringing on the apocalypse. If you want to just take a peek at the story, the first book is free for a limited time. A Great Review Makes My Monday

Image
http://thegirlwiththegreenshovel.blogspot.com/ Got a Google alert that a book of mine was mentioned and found out fantabulous author Shawn Maravel did a review of one of my books . Made my day! And that's saying something when that day was Monday. Thanks, Shawn! So I'm gonna share it here, 'cause, yeah, it was that good. And while you're at it, check out Shawn's book reviews, and her great romance novels, the Volition Series and the Rider Series at her blog, The Green Shovel. Shawn is reading the third book in my Apocalypse Babes series, iRobotronic .  Shawn sez..." I mentioned in my review of the first novel in the Apocalypse Babes series The Z Word that Seffy, the main character, comes off at first as a character you honestly wouldn't mind seeing get eaten. She's shallow, selfish, whinny, and seemingly useless. BUT, I go on to mention in the review that along the way, without your permission, you come to actually root for Seff...

Zombies R Fun

Image
Zombies can be fun...honest! Just because they shamble endlessly toward your ruin and tear off strips of your flesh and slurp down your brains when they catch up to you (and they will) doesn't mean we can't find the humor in the living dead. To whit: Shaun of the Dead . Simply the best zombie movie EVAR. Though this new film looks like it will be in the running: Along with great zombie films, are great zombie books. I've read (and enjoyed)  a couple of the classics, The Zombie Survival Guide and Day By Day Armageddon (super scary).  My latest zombie reads have been: My Life As A White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland. Angel Crawford is a loser...and becomes a zombie tho she has no clue how. What follows is a hilarious but gory story where she's not only fighting for her undead life but coming face to face with her misspent past. I just finished the second book in the series called Even White Trash Zombies Get ...

The Z Word Goes To Comic Con!

Image
Comic Con --that massive confab that started out as a comic book enthusiast geek-out. It's always been my desire to go, but it hasn't happened yet. However, this year I had a little help.  The awesome ladies at Grub Street Reads went and helped to promote their endorsed indie authors...including me .  Woot! So Seffy and the gang went to San Diego and met these people...who will hopefully become Apocalypse Babes fans! I love that this lady is already wearing pink! And there was a bona fide zombie sighting, too. Luckily he's ready with his Apocalypse Babes accessories! Another T-shirt winner whose other outfit is a pink time-traveling tracksuit! Not sure what's going on here, but as long as The Z Word is a part of it, it's awesome! Even awesomer (yes, that's a word because I say so) is that The Z Word is free for the m...

Summer Lovin' G!veaway Blog Hop

Image
Ah, summer...sun, sand, surf. Or maybe for you it's more mountains, lakes, and fishing. Or mudding on an ATV obstacle course. Or sipping cafe au lait in Paris. However you spend your summer vacation, there's probably some reading involved. And that leads to the grand conundrum of 'what books to bring??' There's only so much room in a suitcase filled with flip flops, sunscreen, bug spray, fishing lures, and ATV helmets. In the spirit of that agonizing choice, I'm offering the blog hop winners a choice of prizes. If sweet paranormal romance is your bag, there's Kiss Me, I'm Irish . Or if gothic sci-fi floats your boat, I have a six book series called Apocalypse Babes . If 6 books seem too onerous (i.e a lot ), start out with the first book in the series: The Z Word . Which happens to be free for the month of July anyway. And if none of these titles toast your marshmallow, I'm offering the option of a $5 Amazon or Nook...

THE Z WORD--Free Gothic Time-Travel Sci-Fi Romance

Image
Gothic Time-Travel Sci-Fi Romance...if that's a mouthful, how about Skiffy-Rom Goth-Com? There's just not an easy way to describe The Z Word .  The Z Word follows Seffy Carter and her longtime friends Gareth, Addison and Lani. The four besties share a past dysfunctional and dark enough to keep them bound together under do-over identities. But like off-brand velour, rends develop in their relationships from the flesh-eating pressures of ending up in 1980, in a Montana desert, surrounded by zombies wearing dated disco duds. Reviewers have used words like:  "The Scooby Gang in Zombieland " "Seriously wicked awesome" "A clusterpluck of craziness" "Alice in Wonderland gone wrong" "Not quite the worst I've read"   "Left me guessing and wanting more" "Part science fiction, part romance, part mystery, part fantasy, The Z Word is all entertainment " Wha...
